Earth Trilogy

To the farthest edges of the world, to the deepest corners of the heart.

As a child raised in the bustling heart of Shanghai, I have always searched for my homeland—not among skyscrapers and luxury brands, but in the depths of my soul and the remote edges of the world. I believe it is a spiritual sanctuary for the lonely, where we can hear the whisper of our own breath.

The ancient deities who still sing of life and death in distant lands exist within the ceaseless wheel of time. They are a beam of light, a soaring hymn, a tear, a moment of bewilderment. They are the vast mountains and skies, the scorching sun and torrential rain, the interconnected waters of the earth, and the tranquil heart of childhood.

The Confession of a Bear

The Confession of a Bear is the hero’s journey of Kevin, a timid and indecisive white-collar worker from Shanghai, as well as a soliloquy on the so-called "success" in Chinese society.

Kevin, perpetually on the losing end of office politics, is framed and sent on a business trip to a remote village. There, he accidentally crashes into the local "God of Bears," injuring it, and is nearly imprisoned and executed. Yet, during his captivity, he encounters an entirely different way of life. Ancient and mysterious wisdom brings him spiritual healing—but little does he know, his survival and return trigger a dramatic turn in the power struggles of his corporate world. As he climbs the career ladder, he is horrified to realize that his choices have destroyed the village’s peace, leading to a horrific massacre.

The English edition of this novel has been published in New York, USA.

Reviews

Sun Wei's THE CONFESSION OF A BEAR is a compelling mix of legend, travel story, contemporary urban office tale, and fable. Witty and fresh, it excels at discovering what's old in the new, what's timeless in the perishable.

THE CONFESSION OF A BEAR is a novel in which strangeness is a delight, humour is often frightening, and fear perhaps the most sensible path to follow.
