If I Were a Girl in Fairytales

By Sun Wei

If I were Sleeping Beauty,

An alarm clock could have worked

Much better than a kiss from an unpunctual princess.

If I were Snow White,

I would have never married a man who

Merely fell in love with my body in coffin.

If I were Cinderella,

No fairy godmother could have convinced me to

Dress up for a dance,

Smile sweetly for attention,

Display in the corner as a candidate,

Disguise as someone else.

Why should I be running like hell at every midnight,

Only for running away from

Who I really am?

If I were Little Mermaid,

Why should I give up my voice to trade for

Whatever between human legs,

Whatever makes me the same as others,

Whatever is said to be the

Most necessary to please a king-to-be in order to

Get a marriage,

Certificated by human world,

Go through all these humiliations,

Give up my own soul,

In order to

Achieve a so-called human soul,

A soul belonging to a mass,

A common sense leading to the immortality of the soul,

A reward for ignorance,

A prison for eternity.

I don’t want a soul like this,

I’d rather become bubbles on the sea to

Smell the free life,

Swim with whales,

Slide into my own dreams,

Disappear with pride.

The Dusk

By Sun Wei

Hallo Dusk,

I’ve come to visit you again

For our private date.

No third can share the secret land of us,

No sage can provide maneuver,

No spectator can define us.

People always said,

Let’s go to see sunset together.

They never mean it.

You never show up.

You never show up if I am not alone,

You prefer a quiet observer,

A patient admirer,

A non-instrumental soul,

One of your kind.

Wind down over a drink after a long day,

You look tipsy and rosy,

You can’t hide yourself

Before my gaze,

You are luminescent when I stare

Into your eyes,

You are waiting patiently for me

To approach and have a word with you.

But I’d rather stay silent with you,

For the last hours we have,

Staying away from the human world,

Staying away from our terrene lives,

Staying away from aging and death,

Staying away from past and future,

Staying together for now,

For the last and the first glance.

Look into my eyes,

I am reading you at the moment,

I am listening to you at the moment.
